NAACP Convention

David Boers — dboers(at)mariancollege.edu

While at the Milwaukee Airport yesterday and later at a local mall, I felt
the excitement and energy beginning for the NAACP Convention beginning
tomorrow. Five days of meetings and events will be held. As an illustration
of how this convention can bring recognition of triumphs and setbacks on a
local community, check out the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel on-line. There are
many interesting articles regarding the present and the past, including the
stories of James Cameron, reportedly the only lynching survivor, and Joshua
Glover, freed from jail by Wisconsin citizens against the Fugitive Slave
Law.

I would be interested in perspectives on the NAACP. I am interested in
feedback regarding the importance or lack of importance of the NAACP,
comments on the work done by the organization, and, especially, predictions
regarding the success of the new president, Bruce S. Gordon.
