| Call for Papers for the AAAHRP Third Annual Conference The Association for African American Historical Research and Preservation (AAAHRP) has issued a “Call for Papers” for the AAAHRP Third Annual Conference which is scheduled to be held on February 4, 2006, in Seattle, Washington, and is now accepting conference proposals for topics pertaining to Black history, culture and genealogy. Conference Theme: “Reexamining the History Books: Uncovering and Discovering the Black Experience.” AAAHRP welcomes submissions from scholars; professional and avocational historians; genealogists; graduate students; teachers; community activists; authors; and those engaged in the study or preservation of Black history at archives, libraries, historic sites, museums, and historical societies.
AAAHRP is particularly interested in proposals for papers, panels, workshops and innovative presentations on the following subjects:
* 19th century African American/Caribbean/Canadian leaders
* Africans in Latin American Countries
* Black writers (including playwrights) * Black newspapers and their publishers
* Race “uplifting” publications * Women’s clubs * Culture and history of individual African nations
* Relations between Native Americans and Africans in America
* Pacific Northwest (including Alaska) and far West Black history
* Canadian Black History
* Organizations including, but not limited to, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters; and the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA)
Proposals for other topics within the scope of the conference theme are welcome and desired.
The conference committee also has a strong desire to expand the dialogue established during the successful “On Africa” session chaired by Dr. Tunde Adeleke at the AAAHRP 2nd Annual Conference.
Abstracts should be no longer than 300-400 words. Message text rather than attachment is preferred for proposals and abstracts. The preferred program for attachments is Corel WordPerfect. Please include your name, affiliation, mailing address, contact phone number and e-mail address with your proposal, and send to conferences@aaahrp.org.
Please note that the time allotted for individual paper presentations is, in most cases, 20 to 25 minutes. Presentations are followed by an audience-participation question, answer and comment period. All correspondence concerning the AAAHRP 2006 conference should be sent to conferences@aaahrp.org.
